With 27 full or partial travel awards available being selected could be a lot easier than you think. Applications are welcome from the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland. Funding for these Awards comes from The Trust for Education in International Living, which was established by EIL in 1993. |

When former Vermont Governor Howard Dean started his campaign to become President of the United States one commentator wrote: "Howard Dean should take his tax-hiking, government-expanding, latte-drinking, sushi-eating, Volvo-driving, New York Times-reading, Hollywood-loving, left-wing freak show back to Vermont, where it belongs." This Travel Award allows the recipient to debate with and get to know the young people from this maligned New England State with a population of just 600,000 people. The Vermont Governor’s Institute on Current Issues and Youth Activism examines current issues, policies and political questions, which impact on young people.
Age Profile: 16-18 on 1st June 2007 Dates: July 2007 How to Apply: Click Here for information The Millennium Development Goals and Make Poverty History The 8 Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) – which range from halving extreme poverty to halting the spread of HIV/AIDS and providing universal primary education, all by the target date of 2015 – form a blueprint agreed to by all the world’s countries and all the world’s leading development institutions. In support of the MDGs and the Make Poverty History Campaign, EIL are offering two fully funded travel opportunities in 2007 for individuals who wish to make a real difference!
Oaxaca has 53% of the entire indigenous population in Mexico and half of its population live close to the poverty line and a third of them still speak a native language. The Isla Del Viejo Soyaltepec is made up of 300 indigenous families who have established eco-tourism projects to fight poverty and generate income. Volunteer tasks could include teaching English or computer and general administration skills, maintaining the guest cabins, promotion of the community owned restaurant, marketing of crafts made by local women or maintenance of the nature trails on the island.

Although HIV/AIDS is seen as a predominately African problem there were 4,300 AIDS death in Argentina in 2003. In the same year an estimated 36,000 women aged 15 – 49 had HIV/AIDS. The “Foundation Alfredo Miroli” organises community based education activities to counteract HIV/AIDS infection, drug addiction and alcohol abuse in the city of Tucuman in the north west of Argentina. The Foundation also provides medical assistance and support services to HIV/AIDS patients and drug addicts in the city of 800,000 people.
