History
EIL Intercultural Learning is the Irish National Office of a worldwide "not for profit" network - The Experiment in International Living (EIL) - which was founded in the USA in 1932. In 1989 the EIL Network was designated as a Peace Messenger Organisation by The Secretary General of the United Nations. EIL also has consultative Status at the Council of Europe and at The Economic and Social Committee of The United Nations. EIL was first introduced to Ireland in 1960 and has operated a full time office in Cork since 1989. Since then over 30,000 people have taken part in EIL travel and learning opportunities in and out of Ireland, with many of them spending up to one year on their placements.
