Hallo Deutschland !!

On the 1st of August I will be embarking on a journey to Dessau in Germany as an Irish Ambassador for Eurocamp 2010. In this small town I will be living, working and integrating with 80 other European young people for 3 weeks.

When I first read about this EIL opportunity I saw it as an opportunity of a lifetime. I am looking forward to experiencing a range of different cultures and views on the modern EU. Of course, an improvement on my German language skills would be an added bonus!

The camp encourages European integration and understanding through a series of activities. We will be co-operating to improve the local area of Dessau. Previous ambassadors have built playgrounds and developed the grounds of Dessau. Therefore my expectations are quite high for our volunteering task.

We will participate in discussions and debates to gather a collection of views from the young people of Europe. Cycling and kayaking trips have been organised with local residents of Dessau during our stay. Also we will be learning the art of film production with the aim of showing our creative work at a European film festival.

In representing Ireland, Richard and I will prepare a national dish (and drinks) to accompany an Irish themed evening. We will explain the traditions, history and culture of the Irish people and try to teach the fellow participants a few ceili steps!

I am very grateful to EIL for their commitment and cannot for Eurocamp 2010 to begin.

Tschus ! xx
