25/6/10 - On the road again...

Mexico and Ireland combine!...maybe I should quote Shrek for the title of all my blogs!! Well as Donkey says it's time to head off on the road (or sky) for my Mexican adventure tomorrow. It's been a busy few weeks, sorting out everything and getting ready. We had the pre-departure workshop down in Cork last week, my first time in Cork I'm ashamed to say! Had a really enjoyable time meeting all the other Travel Award winners setting off around the globe and the staff at EIL who are very helpful and nice. I also met up with Brian (2009 winner) in Dublin, we ate burritos to keep on theme! He was very helpful, including suggesting the grasshoppers as something nice to eat in Mexico, that should be interesting!!

I've been explaining about EIL and the awards to as many people as I can, an article in the local paper, the Liffey Champion, helped to raise the profile of the organisation and the opportunities available. As I'm sure you have seen by now there is a silly picture of me with this blog post.....I found some Mexican things in our house, namely a sombrero and a poncho and decided to mix them with me hurling to represent my trip...don't know where I'm looking in that photo or why I'm not smiling!! Many thanks to Taidgh Browne who gave me some hurls and a sliotar to bring to Mexico, who knows, maybe there will be a few Mexicans on the Celbridge Senior Hurling Team in the future!

Anyway just said I'd check in before the journey beings. P.S I am delighted that Mexico have made it through to the next round of the World Cup. They have many fans here in Ireland for various reasons (!) but I'm just glad they will be playing when I'm there. However it is against Argentina...but hopefully they can progress. I'm gonna throw a prediction out there, 2-1 to my amigos!

Ok that's all folks, take care

MC
