Mexico 27/07/10 - Gastro Wars: The Empire Strikes Back!

....I don't even know anything about Star Wars....just go with me on the movie title theme!

So friends it appears I spoke to soon in my last blog about my good health. I have written a poem to explain exactly what happened since I last rambled. Here you go (the space is funny on this, there are suppose to be no spaces only every 6 lines)

                  -1-

La Ventanilla on the Pacific Coast
These mornings is where I eat my toast
I haven't decided what this poem is about
It might take a few lines to figure out
Maybe it could be about Gastroenteristis: The Return
And how for some chocolate I yearn!

                  -2-

Ok so writing my last blog I was fit and well
My trials and tribulations I decided to tell
Alas I spoke too soon of recovery
The return of the Gastro on Friday my discovery
All of the symptoms much the same
But this time I already knew the name

                  -3-
Kevin and Cecilia had emailed me to say
That they would be visiting La Ventanilla, Saturday
I never got the message though
And originally they were to visit in Agosto (August)
So as I strolled to the restaurant for what seemed a mile
Who did I see only Cecilia and her big smile

                  -4-

She could see that I was not well
And onto some chairs I nearly fell
To the doctor immediately was the only way
That I was going to get better that day
My team of supporters around me for aid
The doctor examined and decisions were made

                   -5-

I was put on a drip for about 2 hours
Oh electrolites and their rejuvenating powers
And more medication to finally kill
This infection which has a very strong will
Descanso (rest), descanso is what I've been ordered to do
So now I find myself writing this poem for all of you

                  -6-

So I sit looking out at the Pacific Ocean
Wondering how my turtles are in the motion
How is the island and how are the crocs?
I'm resting because my body took a few knocks
I feel as though this time I'm on the mend
Hasta la vista, Gastro is the message I send!

So there you go, it appears the Irish stomach is weak in comparison to that of the Mexicans, we have come to the conclusion here that I need a stomach transplant! As I said before all this is part of my experience here so I have to just take it in my stride. I've been ordered not to work for a few days and although this is difficult as I am here to volunteer and help out it is important that this time I finally get rid of whatever is causing all these problems! I think this poem accurately reflects the support I have here which is true of the Mexican people, they started out thinking it was regular extraños (strangers) illness but seeing me carried off to the doctor has them all concerned for my speedy recovery.

Anyway I'm grand, on the mend and smiling!

MC

Smile to staff faces

As I turn on my computer this morning I hear laughter all around the office as people log on and read your blog. Not that we are laughing at your misfortune as I am sure you will appreciate but just your good good humor and determination to look on the bright side even though it mustn't be easy. Well done and I hope you recover well enough to really make the most of what is left of your programme. PS - fixed that formatting problem with the spacing ... it is a bit techie so we will have to see if we can get it resolved more satisfactorily.

descanso

Hello MC!! oh dear, I'm feeling a bit sick even reading the stories, proof that we irish do, in fact have weak stomachs!! OK a quick reply AS GAEILGE (because I thought of two words that rhyme so well)

Cogadh Bholg

Tá súil agam nach bhfuil tú go hainnis

"Descanso" is é do leigheas as Spáinnis

Tá brón orm go bhfuil trioblóid i do bholg,

Ach b'fheidir go mbeidh tú níos fearr ag am Nollag!!!!!

Tog é go bog é!!!!

Get well soon!!

Hola MC!! glad to hear you're on the mend again!! it sucks that you've been so sick! make sure to get plenty of descanso (I'm adding that word to my vocabulary book!!) and I hope you'll be up and about and able to work on your project again soon!! :) :)

What a lovely poem in spite

What a lovely poem in spite of the topic. Glad you are feeling better. But remember, plenty "descanso". You looked like a whole new woman when we left on Saturday evening.......the sparkle was back!
