Discover the West of Ireland
Ireland's remote western seaboard has sheltered the
old traditions of language, music and folklore, and enabled them
to thrive. Contrasted with the dramatic upsurge of prosperity elsewhere
in the country, the local economy still relies on small farms, fishing
co-operatives, and cottage industries. We journey through Counties
Kerry, Galway, and Donegal to explore the culture as well as the
resources of this small corner of Europe. We experience the music,
literature, folklore, and history of the people and witness the dramatic,
rugged beauty of their land.

Exploring Ireland: North & South
For centuries, the island of Ireland has sheltered two parallel traditions -- two shared, yet opposite identities. The proud heritage and rich culture of Ireland both North and South tell an enthralling story. Politics contrived to keep them apart in the past, but celebrating shared aspects of culture has brought the two perspectives together in recent times. Journeying from the vibrant capital of Dublin in the South to Belfast and on to the ancient city of Derry, we explore these dual traditions, evident in literature, folklore, film, and music.

An Introduction to Ireland
Castles, ruins, and ancient monuments abound in Ireland - an incredibly
picturesque "old world" country whose long and passionate
history is evident in landscapes and the lives of the friendly people.
Yet Ireland is also one of Europe's most vibrant nations. From Kerry's
lakeshores and stony mountaintops to the old castle at Blarney and
narrow streets of Cork, we learn about Irish folklore, history, and
love of music and culture. In Dublin, heart of the booming Celtic
Tiger economy, we discover unique architecture and vibrant arts in
this city immortalized in the writings of James Joyce.

| Medieval & Gaelic Ireland
Ancient Ireland evokes images of mighty warriors, forts, stone castles, and vibrant expressions of Gaelic culture. Medieval times saw the development of urban centres and Celtic monasteries. With the growth of Irish nationalism in the late 19th century, the "Gaelic League" sought to bring about a cultural revival of traditional music and dance, poetry, prose, and folklore to encourage a sense of uniqueness and nascent Irish nationhood. We celebrate the power of this inheritance as we delve into the richness of ancient Irish civilization in the medieval and Gaelic capitals of Kilkenny and Galway.
