Secondary School Abroad - Fluency at a Young Age

The EIL Secondary School Abroad programme has several benefits:

  • Proven to guarantee excellent exam results
  • Provides full immersion that allows people to become fluent at a young age
  • Encourages independence in young people
  • Provides insurance, travel assistance and 24 hour emergency support

An extended stay in a secondary school abroad is an ideal opportunity to become fluent in a foreign language at a young age. This programme is particularly popular with Transition Year students. A stay can be as short as 2 months or as long as the school year.

The Programme

Secondary School Spain

- Suitable for Transition Years

- Proven to improve exam results

- Support from a trained local coordinator

- Medical and accident insurance included

EIL Ireland offers the possibility of attending a Spanish High School and living with a family during the stay. It is an excellent opportunity to study and live in Spain from six weeks to nine months.

Host Family Placements

Students are placed with host families following a detailed application process.

Incoming students live in a home as another member of the family. They participate in family activities sharing all types of experiences with their host family.

Host Communities

There are host communities all over Spain with local coordinators who offer individual and personal attention. Students and their host families are supported by trained local coordinators, the national office in Madrid, and the EIL office in Ireland.

The local coordinators try to find host families with children, but this cannot be guaranteed for every placement. Host families may have different make ups, such as single parents, or couples whose children have grown up and are no longer at home. What is offered is a safe, welcoming and warm family environment for students. Participants will have many opportunities to make new friends at school. Students may share a host family with another international student of another first language.

Placement in certain regions can be regions can be guaranteed with additional fees.

All students first participate in a one day group orientation (September & February arrivals) after arriving at their host family. Students must be between 15 and 18 years old and have 3 or more years of Spanish study.

All participants are required to comply with school rules, as far as the timetables, school attendance and behaviour are concerned.
