Antibes is beautifully located on the sunny French Riviera in between Cannes and Nice. As the main industry is tourism, French and international holiday makers alike flock to this town on the Cote d'Azur. This trendy sea-side resort town is small, friendly and safe, with a population of 75,000 in the off season. With 300 days of sun per year, Antibes is the perfect location to learn French and enjoy the culture of this stunning French region. This new EIL programme is ideal for Transition Year students who want to study during the school term, but who might not want to go to Secondary School there.
School
Established in 1985 and hosting 5,000 students from around the world each year, our partner school is an established and reliable place to study French. The school itself, called "le Chateau", is a magnificent Provencal building bordered by gardens with impressive views of Antibes town centre, which is just a short walk away.
On the school's site there are:
- 13 classrooms
- Library
- Self-service restaurant and terrace with panoramic sea views
- Internet and computer facilities (€5 per week pass)
- Vending Machines
Features of the school:
- 800 meters from town centre and shops
- 1 km from Antibes railway station
- 1.5 km from beaches
- 1.2 km from the Junior Residence
- Reception is open with friendly staff during school hours
- Classrooms feature TVs, CD players, video recorders and video camera for teaching aids.
Accommodation
Students on Junior Courses can choose to stay in either the residence or with a host family for the same price.
Residence
The residence is in a quiet residential area of Antibes. It features its own fully supervised pool and 30 sunny rooms fitted with showers and separate toilets. Students share in rooms for 2-5 students. Bed linen is provided and changed every week and rooms are cleaned weekly, with a quick clean done every day. Towels are not included. The rooms do not have air conditioning, but upgrades with air conditioning are subject to availability at an extra supplement. *Please note that the rooms in the residence are very basic, student rooms. Students should not expect hotel accommodation.
The residence is 600 meters from the beach and 450 meters from the centre of Juan les Pins. There is a TV lounge, terrace, cafe and a snack bar open April - October. A transport shuttle is provided in the mornings to take students to the school. Breakfast and dinner is taken at the residence, whereas lunches Monday - Friday are served at the school. Packed lunches are provided for excursions.
Host families
Staying with a host family is the best type of accommodation to promote and enhance language learning. What better way to practise and improve your French than to go home every night to native speakers?
All families are sourced and vetted by the school, who knows all of the families well and visit them regularly. All will be delighted to share their lives and cultures with your child and offer the comforts of their homes. Rooms available on the Junior course are double rooms shared with a student of another nationality. All students will be housed with students of the same gender and of a similar age. Students will live in Antibes/Juan-les-Pins. Our partners try their best to place students within walking distance of the school, although some students may need to use local buses, particularly during busy times. All meals are taken with the family except lunches Monday through Friday which are provided at the school. For excursions at the weekend, packed lunches will be provided by host families.
Courses
For students aged 14 - 17, this programme features all inclusive packages (less the cost of flights) for students, and is available outside of the busy summer months. This programme is ideal for Transition Year students, or for any student who would like to make better use out of school holidays, rather than sitting at home. Featuring 20 lessons per week as standard, accommodation with full board, entertainment, excursions, security, shuttles to beaches and the town centre and return airport transfers via Nice, all you have to do is book your flights, pack your bag and get ready to brush up on your French while enjoying the gorgeous Cote d'Azure.
The course price includes a standard 20 lessons of 45 minutes per week. Lessons consist of all aspects of French for fluency: grammar, vocabulary, aural and oral conversation.
For those who wish to have additional lessons, there is the option of adding an Intensive Course supplement. This consists of 6 additional lessons of 45 minutes per week.
Please note, no lessons will be given on national holidays and are not rescheduled or refunded.
Schedule
Lessons will be given in the mornings and a programme of activities and excursions follow in the afternoon and on the weekends. All activities and excursions are supervised, as are the residences.

Answers
-
How do I get to Antibes?
Transfers from Nice airport are included in the programme. Flights are available with Aer Lingus, EasyJet and Ryanair from Dublin and Cork, or Belfast and Dublin respectively. You will be met at the arrivals area and again returned to the airport once the course finishes.
-
How many students will be in my class and how old will they be?
Classes are comprised of a maximum 15 students per class. Every student is assessed on the first day and put into a class according to his or her level. There are 5 different levels that correspond with the Common European Framework for language learning, ranging from Beginners to Advanced. Because classes are sorted by ability and not age, maximum learning progression is achieved no matter how long your child has studied. Students are aged 14 - 17 and come from a wide variety of counties, not just Ireland and English speaking countries.
-
If staying with a host family, can I be placed really near the school?
We try our best to place students as near as possible to the school. During busy periods and depending on what families are available for hosting, this may not always be possible, so it can never be guaranteed. Antibes/Juan les Pins is a very safe town and students' safety is always of top priority.
-
Can I go with a friend?
The course is available to anyone who would like to book and genuinely has an interest in studying and having fun, too. If two friends would like to go together, this can be facilitated. Please note, however, that two students of the same nationality will not be placed in the same room or in the same host family. This is to maximize the learning experience for all participants. If this is a requirement, we will have to check with the school to make sure they can or will do this, but we make no guarantees and would need written permission from both sets of parents before we would be willing to coordinate this.
-
Are the teaching staff qualified?
All of the teachers are university qualified and trained and are native French speakers.
-
My child has allergies, can these be accommodated?
We cannot accept children on the programme who have special medical needs that they cannot manage themselves. If they have allergies, they must be capable of managing them independently and neither the school nor EIL can accept responsibility with regards to allergic reactions. This also applies to food allergies. While different food options are always available, special meals cannot be prepared for students with specific food allergies, such as dairy-free or gluten-free. Students may bring their own supply of specialty foods if necessary, but the purchase and management of these foods will have to be done independently.
-
How many students per session will be on the Junior programme?
Generally there are a maximum of 60 students per session. There are 30 rooms in the residence, with 5 students per room being maximum capacity.
-
What supervision is there?
Each student is assigned to his or her own animateur. This is the contact person or leader for the duration of his or her stay. The animateurs manage the activities and the accommodation supervision during the stay.
There are two levels of evening permission that parents may choose when deciding the curfew when staying in the residence:
- Option 1: No evening permission: From Sunday to Saturday (please note that all students are allowed to go out in pairs or small groups from the end of lunch until the beginning of dinner- 1:30pm to 7:30pm). All students must check with a leader before leaving the residence. All organised activities are supervised.
- Option 2: One evening per week (Tuesday or Wednesday) until 11:00pm. Fridays, Saturdays and days prior to a bank holiday students may stay stay out until 1:00am.
For those staying with a host family:
- Automatic 2 Evenings (Mon. and Wed. till 11:00pm)
- Fridays, Saturdays and days prior to a bank holiday until 1:00am
Please note that students aged 14-15 automatically have NO EVENING GOING-OUT PERMISSION, regardless of accommodation chosen. During evenings when students are not allowed to go out by themselves, accompanied excursions and thematic events are proposed by the animateur leaders on site. For those staying with host families, the evenings are spent with the host family, supervised.
The school reserves the right to exclude students in the case of abuse of the school rules and/or unacceptable behaviour. We will inform parents in the case of any abuse of curfew by the student. We reserve the right to suspend the going out permission if deemed necessary.
Supervision
This course is suitable for the age profile to which it is offered. All students have their own contact person called an animateur. These staff members work as group leaders controlling activities and are responsible for students' supervision. They stay in the residence and supervise the students, as well as lead activities off site. All are trained and qualified to act as animateurs as part of a degree programme in university.
