Accommodation
Students on our standard French Junior Courses can choose to stay either with a French host family or in the residence in the language school for the same price.
Stay with a French host family
Staying with a host family is the best type of accommodation to promote and enhance learning French. What better way to practice and improve the French that you are learning at school than to go home every night to native French speakers?
All host families are sourced and vetted by the school, who knows all of the families well and visits them regularly. All host families will be delighted to share their lives and cultures with their students and offer the comforts of their homes. Host families come in all shapes and sizes; single parents with children living in the house, nuclear families, older couples whose children are no longer at home, as well as young couples who may not have children, are all considered potential host families. Our main criteria is a warm, caring, and comfortable home environment for students to be nurtured and thrive in. Applicants cannot reject host family placements and must agree to accept them without prejudice and to go into the programme with an open mind.
Rooms available on the Junior course are double rooms shared with a student of another nationality. If sharing a room, students will be placed with other students of the same gender and of a similar age. Students will live in Antibes/Juan-les-Pins. Our partners try their best to place students within walking distance of the school, although some students may need to use local buses, particularly during busy times. All meals are taken with the family, except lunches Monday through Friday, which are provided at the school. For excursions at the weekend, packed lunches will be provided by host families.
Stay at the French language school's residence
The residence is located in a quiet, residential area of Antibes. It features its own fully supervised swimming pool and 30 sunny rooms fitted with showers and separate toilets. Students share in rooms of 2-5 students. Bed linen is provided and changed every week and rooms are cleaned weekly, with a quick clean done every day. Towels are not included. The rooms do not have air conditioning. Please note that the rooms in the residence are very basic, student rooms. Students should not expect hotel accommodation.
The residence, a converted chateau, is 600 meters from the beach and 450 meters from the centre of Juan les Pins. There is a TV lounge, terrace, cafe and a snack bar open April - October. A transport shuttle is provided in the mornings to take students to the school. Breakfast and dinner is taken at the residence, whereas lunches Monday - Friday are served at the school. Packed lunches are provided for excursions.
Courses
Regular French courses
For students aged 14-17, this French language programme is an all inclusive package (less the cost of flights) and is available outside of the busy summer months. This programme is ideal for Transition Year students, or for any student who would like to make better use out of school holidays by improving their French, rather than sitting at home. Included in the price are 20 lessons per week as standard, accommodation with full board, entertainment, excursions, supervision, shuttles to beaches and the town centre and return airport transfers via Nice Airport.
The Regular courses are presented in a Standard or Intensive format. The Standard course provides 20 lessons per week and the Intensive course provides 26 lessons per week. Lessons last 45 minutes each and they consist of all aspects of French for fluency: grammar, vocabulary, aural and oral conversation.
Please note, no lessons will be given on national holidays and are not rescheduled or refunded.

French Leaving Certificate preparation course
The Leaving Certificate preparation Coucse was developed by EIL and our French partners in Antibes. It offers students travelling with EIL an intensive language and activity programme that is particulary effective for revision. Using the Leaving Cert syllabus, past exam papers, and consultations with Irish French teachers familiar with teaching French for the Leaving Certificate, we are confident that students will improve their French with this course. In just two weeks, students' abilities can significantly improve in both spoken and written form. The combination of French language classes adapted to the Irish Leaving Certificate and staying with a French host family offers dual language learning - ideal for revision and preparation! Students will also have a chance to relax and have some fun through educational tours, cultural activities and excursions. This is a closed group course; there are a limited number of places (maximum 12 students per group) and there will only be other Irish students taking part in the class. Irish students have been attending our Leaving Certificate preparation courses in three countries for over seven years and have improved their exam results immensely.
This course is suitable for students from Transition Year up to Leaving Certificate level, but please note that the classes are taught at a fifth year level. The course material is specifically geared towards preparation for the Irish Leaving Certificate Exam for French.
The course takes place over set dates. Programmes will not be confirmed until a minimum of 6 participants are secured for each session, which can be as little as one month before departure. In the event that 6 students do not sign up for any particular Leaving Certificate preparation course, a place on an alternative session can be arranged, or a place on one of the other courses (Standard or Intensive) for the same dates can be arranged, subject to additional fees. If neither of these options suits, deposits can be refunded.
Included in the French Leaving Certificate preparation course are:
- 26 x 45 lessons of French per week.
- Double room, half board* accommodation with a host family only.
- One half day and one full day excursion.
- Books and materials.
- A schedule of afternoon and weekly activities.
- Transfer from Nice Airport or railway station.
- CareMed medical travel insurance.
Please note that flights are not included with any of our programmes.
If students prefer to extend their programme to more than 2 weeks, it is possible to add on one of the other courses for any number of weeks either before of after the Leaving Certificate preparation course. Please enquire for more details and prices.
* Please note that for the Leaving Certificate preparation course, accommodation is provided with half board to keep the prices low. Students can purchase meals in the school's canteen or go into Antibes town for lunch. The most economical option, however, is to add weekly lunches in the canteen to the programme when applying. This costs €45 per week. Please enquire for full details.
1 lesson = 45 minutes of teaching time.

Answers
How do I get to Antibes?
Transfers from Nice Airport are included in the programme. Flights are available with Aer Lingus, EasyJet and Ryanair from Dublin and Cork, or Belfast and Dublin respectively. Students will be met at the arrivals area and returned to the airport once the course finishes.
How many students will be in my class and how old will they be?
General course classes are comprised of a maximum 15 students per class; for the Leaving Certificate Preparation course, there will bea maximum of 12 students per class. Every student is assessed on the first day and put into a class according to his or her level. There are 5 different levels that correspond with the Common European Framework for Language Learning, ranging from Beginners to Advanced. Because classes are sorted by ability and not age, maximum learning progression is achieved no matter how long the child has studied French. Students are aged 14-17 and come from a wide variety of counties, not just Ireland and English-speaking countries.
If staying with a host family, can I be placed really near the school?
Our partners try their best to place students with host families as near to the school as possible. During busy periods and depending on which families are available for hosting, this may not always be possible, so it can never be guaranteed. Antibes/Juan les Pins is a very safe town and students' safety is always of top priority.
Can I go with a friend?
This French learning course is available to anyone who would like to book and genuinely has an interest in learning French in France and having fun, too. If two friends would like to go together, this can be facilitated. Please note, however, that two students of the same nationality will not be placed in the same room in the residence or with the same host family. This is to ensure as much French immersion as possible and to maximize the learning experience for all participants.
Are the teaching staff qualified?
All of the French teachers are native speakers and are university qualified and trained to teach French to students.
My child has allergies, can these be accommodated?
We cannot accept children on the programme who have special medical needs that they cannot manage themselves. If they have allergies, they must be capable of managing them independently and neither the school nor EIL can accept responsibility with regards to allergic reactions. This also applies to food allergies. While different food options are always available, special meals cannot be prepared for students with specific food allergies, such as lactose or gluten intolerance. Students may bring their own supplies of specialty foods if necessary, but the purchase and management of these foods must be done independently.
How many students per session will be on the Junior programme?
Generally there are approximately 60 students per session. There are 30 rooms in the Junior residence, with 5 students per room being maximum capacity.
What supervision is there?
Each student is assigned his or her own animateur. This is the contact person or leader for the duration of his or her stay. The animateursmanage the activities and the accommodation supervision during the stay. All students are allowed to go out in pairs or small groups from the end of lunch until the beginning of dinner - 1:30pm to 7:30pm.
