Seanai's journal, living and going to school in Germany, 1st week settling in
I am very glad to report all is well here in Germany.
The first night was very tough it was late when I arrived in Bremen and met my host family, they are very nice and treat me very well, but I would not recommend arriving late at night as I found it hard when I got to their house we had to go to bed, it was late and I understood this but it was very lonesome in a strange room in a different country with a new family! I felt a small bit homesick the next day but not as much as I would have expected. I have settled in very well and do not feel at all homesick at present.
The language barrier is not a major issue and I am making great strides in my German. I find German life very different to Ireland's way, with Germany having more bicycles on the road than cars!
School is brilliant, I wouldn't even call it school, its more like college, loads of free classes, no uniform and the teachers just couldn't be bothered giving out! I have made great friends in school and they help me out and bring me everywhere, I was skiing on Saturday and I am going to an amusement park nearby today as I have two weeks holidays from school!
I also joined the local soccer team in Schneverdingen and the local gym and the host families son and I go there three times a week! I have completely immersed myself in the culture as requested and I am looking forward to the coming weeks!
