Seanai's journal, living and going to school in Germany, predeparture thoughts
Just one day to go! I am very excited about my trip to Germany, but at the same time a small bit nervous!
I am glad that I am arriving on Friday as i will have the weekend to adjust and get to know my host family. The thing that I am most looking forward to is the experience of attending school in Germany. My mind has been put at ease with regular e-mails from my host family, especially my host mother, she has been very helpful with informing me of what belongings I will need and organizing arrangements with my new school. Even though I said school is one of the things I am looking forward to the most, I am also anxiously nervous about my classmates, I hope that I will fit in perfectly into the mainstream schooling and make plenty of new friends and this should only help to improve my German.
I intend on working hard on my German, but also enjoying myself and embracing my new surroundings and way of life. Even though I understand my host mother is fluent in English I hope to discipline myself not to take advantage of this and to speak German. I am glad that the family have a son the same age as me, and will be in my class as this will make adjusting in school easier and less stressful.
All in all I hope that this will be a life changing experience and that I will improve my German, make new friends and come away with an inside perspective of Germany and its people.
