As
my time here is coming to an end I'm in the process of writing up
profiles on
each of the children for future volunteers. I'm putting together details
such
as how to communicate with the children, tips for feeding them and what
games
they like to play. It has been a lot of fun preparing these profiles as
I've
realised how well I've gotten to know them over the last 2 months and
the
children have really enjoyed getting their profile pictures taken as
well!
The pace of life is very different to anything I had previously experienced. Manana (tomorrow) is a favourite expression - and it might get done tomorrow and then again it might not! It’s been a great experience which I have thoroughly enjoyed.
I love working in the school, because the children are amazing. Despite all their problems, they are the most beautiful, happy and inspiring people I've ever met in my life. It is difficult at times, but I knew it would be. Every minute with the children makes me appreciate everything I have ever had in my own life. And that's a reward in itself.
Although the work in the school is physically tiring and emotionally draining, I'm really enjoying every minute of it. It can be difficult to discipline the children, as they see foreign volunteers more as their friends than teachers. But I'm working on it! And I can see they're making progress already.
