University Student Homestays 2007
About the program:
Each year American University students, studying in Irish universities for a semester, spend a weekend with an Irish host family in host communities across the country. This homestay experience allow for students to be immersed in the daily life of an Irish family and community, and to experience life in Ireland beyond the campus.
Here are some of the 2007 program participants opinons about our program:
‘Time spent with the children of the family, the astounding scenery of the countryside and the tea drinking’
‘Being part of the Irish family and its culture, even just for a weekend, is very enlightening and helps visiting students transition into the foreign culture a bit easier’
(The homestay) offered a good opportunity to see Irish history and current events from the perspective of people living in Ireland’
It was a great learning experience and helped us to really understand what Irish culture is all about!’ I like to be able to visit a small town in Ireland and observe the way that the Irish family lived and interacted. They had 2 small daughters who showed us the games they played and the mother let us into town and told us what she thought we might see and do’
"A little taste of Irish culture was both educational an entertaining”
"It is a unique and satisfying experience and it exposes you to a different view of [Ireland] besides the academic part.”
