GAP volunteer Amy Mc Govern's journal, entry 3

It breaks my heart to say that my time at Thembacare has come to an end. I am so upset leaving all these wonderful people who I have become so close to - the staff, the other volunteers and most of all the gorgeous kids. I feel very grateful to have been able to work with a team of passionate, caring and dedicated people who work so well together for a cause that is driven by pure love - and that's why it is so hard to leave. I will miss these children so enormously but I console myself in knowing that they are in the best possible hands and are surrounded by staff who adore them and who are working towards building them great lives. I plan to return and in the meantime I will do all that I can from home so that I can continue contributing to Thembacare's work.

I have been asked many times if working at Thembacare was difficult or depressing. My answer is that the work at Thembacare is uplifting. It fills you with hope and optimism in the face of the difficult and depressing challenges we are up against, those of HIV and AIDS.
