What Course do we offer?

We offer standard and intensive courses throughout the year. A programme of sports and recreational activities is held as well.

Junior Courses for teenagers

Designed for students aged 13-17, the Junior programme is offered outside of the standard summer months.  This fully supervised programme is a good alternative for a Transition Year student who wants to go to France but might not want the Secondary School Abroad programme, or for students who want to make the most out of their school holidays.

Leaving Certificate Courses

At our request, our partners have organised an intensive language  and activity course for Irish participants travelling with AFS/EIL.  Course material is based on the Irish Leaving Certificate syllabus. The combination of language classes and staying with a host family offers dual language learning–perfect for Leaving Certificate preparation. Students will also have the chance to have fun through tours, cultural activities and excursions with other students from the Junior courses. The course is aimed at students in Senior Cycle.

Accomodation

Host Family:

Living with a host family is the best way to learn French and to experience French culture. All families are sourced and vetted by the school and are visited regularly. Families are eager to share their everyday lives with their students and hope that the students in return are just as enthusiastic. Rooms for the Junior Courses are double rooms and students are placed with another student of a similar age and gender, but different nationality if possible. While the school tries to place students in families within walking distance of the school, this cannot always be accommodated and buses may have to be taken to get to the school. Breakfast and dinner are taken with the host family.

Residence:

The Junior residence is located in a quiet and residential area of Antibes, just minutes away from the residential area of Juan-les-Pins and just 600 metres from the beach. It has its own fully supervised swimming pool, a terrace, snack bar and 30 sunny rooms fitted with showers and separate toilets. Students share rooms with 2 to 5 beds. Bed linen is provided and changed every week and rooms are thoroughly cleaned weekly, with a quick daily clean as well. Towels are not included. Please note that the rooms are very basic and are not air-conditioned. Shuttle transfers are provided daily from the residence to the school. Students staying in the residence are fully supervised.

Arrival and Departure

Students are responsible for organising their own flights and must arrive to Nice Airport on the Sunday before the course begins and depart on the Saturday after the last day of the classes.

Transfers to and from Nice Airport are included in the programme.  Students will be met in the arrivals hall and taken to their accommodation.

Activities

Activities and Excursions

Lessons are held in the mornings, followed by a full programme of activities and excursions for the afternoons and weekends. Activities range from games and contests to cabarets and casinos, shows and thematic activities and weekly barbecues. The school provides full day, half-day and afternoon excursions weekly. Typical examples of excursions could be a full day at Lérins Islands, Nice or a local water park, or a half day excursion to Monaco, Cannes or Marineland. Excursions are not offered on the weekend of arrival. All students are assigned their own animateur, who is their contact person while they are there. They manage activities, accommodation and supervision during their stay.

Supervision

Supervision by qualified professionals

This course is suitable for the age profile to which it is offered. All students have their own contact person called an animateur. These staff members work as group leaders controlling activities and are responsible for students’ supervision. They stay in the residence and supervise the students, as well as lead activities off site. All are trained and qualified to act as animateurs as part of a degree programme in university. All students are allowed to go out in pairs or small groups from the end of lunch until the beginning of dinner – 1:30pm to 7:30pm. Evening permission varies according to age and which type of accommodation chosen. All students must check with a leader before leaving the residence. All organised activities are supervised.

For students 16 and up staying in the residence, there are two levels of evening permission that parents may choose. Parents must choose either one or the other; there is no in between.

  • Option 1: No evening permission: From Sunday to Saturday.
  • Option 2: One evening per week (Tuesday or Wednesday) until 11:00pm. Fridays, Saturdays and days prior to a bank holiday students may stay stay out until 1:00am.

For students who are 16 and up and staying with a host family:

  • Automatic 2 evenings per week, Monday and Wednesday until 11:00pm
  • Fridays, Saturdays and days prior to a bank holiday until 1:00am

Please note that students aged 14-15 automatically have NO EVENING GOING-OUT PERMISSION, regardless of the accommodation chosen. During evenings in the residence when students are not allowed to go out by themselves, accompanied excursions and thematic events are proposed by the animateur leaders on site. For those staying with host families, the evenings are spent with the host family, supervised.

The school reserves the right to exclude students in the case of abuse of the school rules and/or unacceptable behaviour. We will inform parents if students break curfew. We reserve the right to suspend the going-out permission if deemed necessary.
