About the Courses in Lindau

Adult Courses – Age 17 and up

Tuition is tailored to fit the needs and wishes of the students. Apart from aiming for oral and reading comprehension and written  expression, the most important goal is to improve and consolidate the fluency of each student by means of practice-orientated grammar. On arrival, all students take a placement test to determine language ability and are subsequently placed in a multinational class appropriate to his or her level. Participants can choose between different course types.

Key Features

  • Accommodation available in host families or residences (18 & up)
  • Adult courses offered all year long
  • Standard, intensive or combined courses
  • Maximum of 10 students per class

Intensive course (20 lessons per week)

The Intensive Course covers all the basic requirements for learning German, with particular emphasis on spoken German. This course serves to refresh, intensify and expand the student’s knowledge.

Intensive Course (25 lessons per week)

This course adds five further lessons to the main course over two afternoons. These extra classes focus on specific projects and also cover topics for exams that the student might be preparing for.

Leaving Certificate Courses

At our request, our partners have organised an intensive language and activity programme for Irish participants focusing on Leaving Certificate preparation. In just two weeks  German skills can significantly improve both in spoken and written form, and the combination of language classes and staying with a host family offers dual language learning–perfect for Leaving Certificate Preparation! Students will also have the chance to relax and have some fun through guided tours, cultural activities and excursions. These courses are taught to a 5th year level. Students can add on an extra week or two of the Intensive or Super-Intensive course either before or after the Leaving Certificate Preparation Course to further enhance learning.

Summer Youth Courses – Age 13 to 16

Interesting and varied lessons, devised by young and motivated teachers, small classes, a comprehensive leisure programme, friendly host families and of course a beautiful town set in glorious surroundings, all go towards making these German youth courses a memorable experience for teenage students. Held during the summer only, youth courses offer small classes where only German is spoken from the first day onwards. Teaching topics are up-to-date and above all selected and compiled for younger audiences. There are four morning lessons and one afternoon lesson and all teaching materials are included. Accommodation is with a host family and includes full board. The course also includes a fully supervised activity and excursion programme, examples of which are as follows:

  • Teenage discos, games nights and barbecues
  • Guided city tours
  • Billiards, miniature golf, school cinema, etc.
  • Sports programme including soccer, volleyball, swimming, etc.
  • Trips around the island
  • Bicycle tours
  • Full day trips on the weekends (e.g. Munich, Meersburg, Ulm, Neuschwanstein Castle, etc.)
  • Weekly 1⁄2 day excursions (e.g. waterskiing, high ropes course, Friedrichschafen, etc.)
  • 20 group lessons per week
    Classes Monday – Friday (9:00 to 12:30)
Maximum of 11 students per class

Host Family or Residential

Students 18 and over can choose to stay either with a host family or in the school apartments. We require students under 18 to stay with host families. Host families live no more than 20 minutes from the school by bus or bike and are all known personally by the staff in the school. Accommodation for the adult course is on a single room, half board basis. For the Summer Youth Course, students are placed together with a students of a different native language and full board is provided. No special requests for siblings or friends to be placed together will be considered.

There is also a student residence that is located 5 minutes away from the school, and less than 100 metres to the waterfront. It has single and double rooms, several bathrooms, a large kitchen with a microwave, washing machine, lounge with satellite TV, internet access and a telephone.
