About Salerno

Rich in history and deeply-rooted traditions, our partner school is situated on the gulf of Salerno, neighbour to the wonderful Amalfi coast. The nearest airport is Naples Capodichino, located only 50 km to the north, which has rapid connections at all hours of the day, permitting speedy transfers to Salerno.

The school’s fortunate geographical position allows students to enjoy a healthy, mild climate and clear blue sea all year long. Without a doubt, the symbol of the city is its wonderful seafront promenade that offers a place to relax amidst ancient buildings, open-air cafés and restaurants.

What Course do we offer?

We offer standard and intensive courses throughout the year. A programme of sports, excursions and recreational activities is held as well.

On the first day of the course, students who are non-beginners do a written and oral test to assess their ability and to decide in which study group they will be placed. Classes are made up of a maximum of 10 students. All courses aim to develop practical communication skills so students can learn and practice Italian in structured and imaginative lessons that include grammar, vocabulary and conversation. Teachers use linguistic practices aided by modern textbooks, as well as audiovisual and multimedia materials.

Students can choose between the following courses:

  • Standard:  20 group lessons per week
  • Intensive:  30 group lessons per week

Super-Intensive:  20 group lessons plus 5 individual lessons per week

Junior Course

We are excited to now offer a Junior Course in Cliento for students between 14-16. Students receive 20 Italian lessons per week, activities and excursions, full-board residential accommodation and 24-hour supervision. In addition to the Italian language, students will learn about history, art, music, ceramics, theatre and cooking, and enjoy the beautiful beaches and landscapes in Cilento (60 miles south of Salerno), in a traditional and real-life setting. Fully supervised activities include a welcome party, guided excursions, sports and competitions, daily entertainment and a final show.

  • Standard: 20 group lessons per week, 4 per day, Monday through Friday
  • Intensive: 30 group lessons per week, 6 per day, Monday through Friday
  • Super Intensive: 20 group lessons per week, 4 per day Monday through Friday, plus 1 private lesson per day
  • 1 lesson = 55 minutes teaching time

Students must present themselves at the school by 08:30 on their first day. Group lessons are usually held in the mornings, however on occasion (high season) these group lessons may be scheduled in the afternoons. Individual lessons are generally held in the afternoons. The number of lessons includes the entrance/placement test and the final exam, as well as the final feedback. There are six different levels, and completion of a 4-week course does not guarantee advancement to the next level.

Staying with a host family is the best way to learn and understand the Italian language and culture. Host families live in the town centre, just a few minutes from the school. Students are housed in a single room and receive half board. No special requests for siblings or friends to be placed together will be considered.

For students 18 and over, the option to stay in a student apartment is also available.  Please enquire for prices.

Arrival and Departure

Participants are responsible for organising their own flights and must arrive on the Sunday before the course begins and will depart on the Saturday after the last day of the classes.

Transfers from Naples Capodichino Airport are included in the cost of the programme.

Students must arrive between 06:00-22:00 h, otherwise additional fees will apply.

Activities and Excursions

Beautiful places noted for their history and landscape are numerous around Salerno, and at all times of the year interesting excursions are offered by the school. Examples of destinations include: Capri, Pompeii, Paestum, Amalfi, Ravello, Vietri, Sorrento, Positano, Naples and Caserta. All excursions are with a teacher or expert guide. These activities have an extra cost.

Recreational Activities

The school strives to provide all students with information about meeting places within the city so that they can get to know each other in a relaxing and friendly atmosphere. Staff and teachers organise social activities every day, including seminars and workshops about Italian culture, city tours, films, etc.

Cultural and recreational activities are included in the cost of the programme. Students only pay for the entrance to museums,

The school also organises special guided visits to local Limoncello, Mozzarella di Bufala and Olive oil factories. Visits are followed by final tasting of typical products. These visits take place in the afternoons all year round and they take at least 2 hours each. These visits are not included in the cost of the programme.

Students will receive full information about these activities on the first day during an orientation meeting and welcome party. Once a week the school organises special dinners in nice restaurants where, for a special price, students with their teachers and Italian friends can taste typical dishes while practicing Italian.

As this is an exclusively adult language school and students will be treated as such.  There is no special supervision for students under 18.  Parents who wish to book a 17 year old on the course must bear in mind that they will be unsupervised for the duration of the programme.
