NOW ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR 2017!

Located less than one hour from Malaga Airport and almost equidistant from the famous Andalusian cities of Granada, Seville, Cordoba and Ronda, our language school in Nerja is a perfect location to study Spanish. Nerja is a quiet, tranquil Spanish coastal town. Called the 'Oasis of Europe,' it was originally named Narixa, meaning "rich in water" and has many legends and stories that have been passed by word of mouth across the centuries. To stroll along the streets and promenades of Nerja is a joy to the eye. Why not turn your studies into a holiday or your holiday into a fantastic learning experience?

Study Abroad in Nerja, Spain

The school is centrally located a five-minute walk from the beach. Its quiet surroundings make it an excellent place to study. Set in an original Andalusian house, students can enjoy classes and make friends while sipping a free coffee from the cafeteria during the break, while the bright and fully-equipped classrooms provide a tranquil atmosphere in which to learn. The school has air-conditioned rooms during the summer months, and heated ones during the winter.

Facilities include: a video room, study room, bookshop and library to practise Spanish skills and build on subjects taught in class. Students can keep in touch with friends and family by using the internet, fax and telephone facilities.

Small Study Groups

With a maximum of eight students per class, students come from more than 30 different countries, from Asia to North America, and from Africa to Australia. Here students will meet and interact with different cultures and personalities, keeping in mind that everyone is there with the same purpose- to experience the life and culture of the Spanish people!

Speak Spanish with Host Families

Students can choose to stay either with a local Spanish host family, in a private or shared apartment or at hotel or hostel. All accommodation options are inspected by the Accommodation Officer before any student is placed there. The prices listed on this website are quoted for host family accommodation with half board (breakfast and dinner), as we feel that the best way to learn a language is through practice with native speakers and also through cultural immersion. Living with a family enables students to learn more about the local culture and customs, to sample home-cooked local cuisine and to use the language in its most natural form. Please ask EIL for a quote for alternative accommodation if necessary.

All host families are carefully selected and the school is in constant contact with them as they host.   With a maximum of two students per family and always of different nationalities, students will be fully immersed in Spanish family life. Families are also constantly monitored through regular inspections and feedback from other students.

All accommodation options offered by the school are less than 10 minutes' walking distance from the school and the beach.

Effective Teaching Programmes

This school has its own method of teaching. Its personal approach means that each student develops the skills that he or she needs, and that each can study at his or her own pace.  Teachers are constantly preparing and updating teaching methods and materials. In addition, during tutorial hours, a teacher will be available to help with problems outside of lessons.

Language Learning

Students should arrive at the school at 09:00 on the first Monday of the course for an oral assessment.  For beginners, lessons start at 09:30.

All necessary materials will be provided and all students will be placed in classes according to skill. The school uses the Common European Framework of Reference: Learning, Teaching, Assessment established by the Council of Europe as a reference document for the European Language Portfolio. Six levels are established as part of this framework.

Each class lasts 55 minutes (1 teaching hour) and individual lessons last 60 minutes. Lessons can be in the morning or in the afternoon according to the timetable established by the school.

Learn Spanish and Have Fun, Too!

Students benefit from a varied programme of activities and excursions. Each activity or excursion is guided by a member of teaching staff, which gives students the opportunity to practice language skills in real-life situations.

Activities and excursions are not included in the programme costs; some are free, while others are on a pay-as-you-go basis.

Full-Day Excursions

Students can participate in full-day excursions and take time to sample the delights of Sevilla, Granada (La Alhambra, Sierra Nevada), Córdoba, Málaga, Ronda, Gibraltar and more. Full-day excursions are held on weekends.

Half-Day Excursions

Visit the famous Nerja Caves, typical Arabic mountain villages, or take a boat trip to beaches inaccessible by car.

Social Activities

The school offers many social activities so students can integrate and get to know one another.  Examples include: welcoming parties for new students, Sevillana dance classes, cookery classes to taste and cook the local cuisine, photographic safaris, barbecues, visits to the cinema or theatre, etc.

Sports Activities

Nerja's football and athletics stadium has a long list of different sports that can be practised in and around the town. Skiing (Sierra Nevada), swimming, sailing, fishing, diving, volleyball, basketball, tennis, golf, hiking, horseback riding and cycling are all available options (some are seasonal).

The school also works with a specialised local adventure centre that can organise other sports for those looking for more action.

All excursions and activities are accompanied by someone from the school.

Students learn a language much more quickly when having fun!

Questions

Answers

  • What do I write in my host family letter?

The letter to your host family is an opportunity to introduce yourself and tell your hosts about yourself- family, hobbies, interests and friends are all good topics. Written in Spanish, your letter will differentiate you from other students the host families may be hosting or have hosted, and also gives your hosts topics to start conversation once you arrive so you can practice your Spanish even more.
