While in Ghana, West Africa, I witnessed firsthand women gathering at the river, to wash clothes, collect water in basins and buckets, and carrying them home on their heads. Who knows how far they have to walk? Having carried a small basin of harvested maize for only a minute or two on my head, I do not envy their daily struggle.
