EIL Ireland has developed as a unique workshop to prepare their volunteers before leaving for their projects, and these workshops are mandatory to attend prior to departure. They're lively sessions of activities and information!
So what's covered in the workshop?
We offer participants the opportunity to reflect on what it means to be a volunteer, the challenges of living in a foreign country, health and safety, child protection issues, life in a host family or Volunteer House and how to put the learnings and experience from their time abroad to good use in Ireland. We also use activities to help bring attention to the global issues that volunteers will encounter.
Here's what our volunteers think of their workshops:
"Thanks again for the wonderful workshop, I must say it was very professional! It left us all very inspired, motivated, confident and way more excited, and we have a lot of faith in everyone at EIL that we will receive all the advice and support needed".
It was a really worthwhile weekend and thoroughly enjoyed meeting everyone. I am very impressed with EIL as an organization and feel very privileged to be part of the team".
"I met other volunteers so I didn't feel like I was the only person who had concerns about going away and it made me feel better about being able to deal with potential problems".
"I thought it was very interactive - rather than lectures we took part in practical games that highlighted issues and heard from others experiences"
Here are the dates for the 2016 predeparture workshops:
