Explore Scholarship Winner: Sophie’s Swiss Adventure 🇨🇭

Our Explore Scholarship winner, Sophie, is currently enjoying the adventure of a lifetime in Switzerland!

Through the Explore Scholarship, Sophie is spending three months living and studying in Switzerland, where she is immersing herself in Swiss culture, living with a host family and attending a local school. It’s a fantastic opportunity to experience everyday life in another country, develop new skills and see the world from a whole new perspective.

Settling into life in Switzerland

Since arriving, Sophie has been busy settling into her new community and embracing everything that comes with an international exchange.

From adapting to a new school environment and getting to know her host family to meeting fellow AFS students and making new friends, every day brings a new experience. Along the way, Sophie is discovering Swiss traditions, experiencing a different culture and learning what everyday life is like for young people in another part of Europe.

Living abroad is about much more than visiting a new country. It’s an opportunity to step outside your comfort zone, become more independent and build connections with people from different backgrounds and cultures.

 

 

From Switzerland to Brussels 🇪🇺

Sophie’s international experience won’t end when her time in Switzerland comes to a close.

At the end of her exchange, she’ll travel to Brussels to take part in a three-day Peace Camp alongside AFS students from across Europe.

During the camp, Sophie will have the opportunity to visit key European institutions, explore important global issues and learn more about peace and active citizenship.

It will also give her the chance to reflect on what it means to be a global citizen, someone who understands our shared responsibility in creating a more peaceful, connected and inclusive world.

 

 

 

An experience to remember

The Explore Scholarship gives young people like Sophie the opportunity to experience another culture from the inside, form friendships across borders and develop confidence, independence and a broader understanding of the world.

Sophie’s journey is a brilliant example of what an international exchange can offer, and her adventure is still unfolding.
