Thinking of applying for an EIL Explore Scholarship? Here’s everything you need to know to prepare a strong application, understand the selection process and take the next step.
Who are we looking for?
EIL Explore Scholarships support people who are passionate about intercultural learning, personal development and making a positive difference.
We’re looking for applicants who:
- Are curious, open-minded and interested in other cultures.
- Show initiative, leadership potential and a willingness to learn.
- Have been involved in volunteering, school, college or community activities.
- Are ready to embrace new experiences and challenges.
- Want to share their learning and make an impact when they return home.
You don’t need extensive travel experience. What matters most is your motivation, commitment and willingness to get involved.
Tips for a Strong Application
1. Choose the right scholarship
Explore the available scholarships and check the eligibility criteria, age requirements, travel dates and any language requirements before applying.
2. Tell us your story
Be authentic! Explain why you’re interested in the scholarship, what you hope to learn and what makes you a suitable candidate. Use real examples from your experiences.
3. Highlight your involvement
Tell us about your volunteering, community activities, leadership experiences or personal achievements. Small actions can make a big difference.
4. Show your interest in intercultural learning
Think about how you’ll engage with your host community, embrace cultural differences and share your own culture while abroad.
5. Think about your Action at Home
All Explore Scholarship recipients complete an Action at Home Project to share their learning and create a positive impact in their community. Include some initial ideas in your application.
6. Prepare your reference
Choose someone who knows you through school, college, volunteering, community activities or work. References from family members or friends are not accepted. Ensure your reference is completed, signed and includes contact details.
